JGA Scholarship Recipients named
Four outstanding high school graduates have been named winners of the 2008 Junior Golf Association scholarships, each winning a one-year $1,500 award.

Winners of the John Block JGA Scholarship are Kyle Hotte and Blake Mortellaro, who both graduated from Portage Central.  Mortellaro plans to attend Michigan State University.  Hotte is planning on entering Davenport College to pursue his business dreams.  He ranked 49th in a class of 344.

There are two new JGA scholarships being awarded this year. Kyle Schau, a graduate of Gull Lake High School, is the winner of the James Roschek Scholarship and Laura Eberhard is the winner of the Heidi Krum Memorial Scholarship.  Schau, who was fourth in his class of 238, plans to attend Florida Atlantic University.  Eberhard, a graduate of Mattawan High School,  is headed for Michigan State where she will be studying science.

The four scholarship winners were selected from an outstanding field of 10 applicants, all of whom ranked high in their respective classes and made up perhaps the most academically talented application class ever. Other applicants included:  Kellen Seaton, Loy Norrix; Tyler Heffner, Comstock; Trenton Stapert, Kalamazoo Christian; Jessica Capron, Gull Lake; Keith Alrick, Schoolcraft; and Tommy Fawley, Comstock.

Scholarship Fundraising Drive
T
he Junior Golf Association was established in 1987 with the purpose of providing quality golf experiences for area juniors at affordable rates. Early fundraisers by Jim Roschek and John Block laid the foundation for the JGA Scholarship Fund. In recent years, the JGA has supported all tournaments, instruction, administrative costs and Scholarship donations solely on entry fees. In order to expand programs, offer more Scholarships and keep entry fees low, it’s time to ask for your help.
